Every year Missouri celebrates Earth Day on April 22nd. However, many people do not know what earth day is all about. Earth day is celebrated all over the world not just in Missouri.
It began in 1970. Earth day has several events to demonstrate support for environmental protection. 193 countries attend and participate in a variety of events to help people learn and understand the importance of environment protection. Earth day is globally connected by the Earth Day Network.
SKS 4th graders are also participating in Earth Day activities by learning about Earth Day and teaching the school and community about it, too! 4th (and 3rd) grade have decorated paper grocery bags with conservation tips and reminders about how to take care of Earth. Some of the bags have been displayed at school along with informational posters, and the majority of the bags will be displayed at Country Fresh later next week, through Earth Day (April 22).
In addition to learning how to take care of our earth, Carroll Electric Cooperative sponsors free trees for 4th grade and teaches them safe practices in planting the trees. Missouri celebrates Arbor Day the first Friday in April.
SKS students and community have become part of the future by planting trees and learning and teaching about the importance of environmental protection.
