On January 25 SKS held their school spelling bee. The students in grades fourth, fifth and sixth have been practicing words for the last two months to prepare for the school spelling bee.
Students participated in separate classroom spelling bees to determine who would lead their class in the school spelling bee. There were three top contenders from each class: fourth grade Lily Anderson, Nicole McCallister, and Aalyiah Franklin.
Fifth grade Amber Hayes, Addi Sherfy and Dennin Walton.
Sixth grade Neveah Miller, Kylie Martin and Anthony Stiverson.
Students spelled words round to round until there were only two participants left. Then they went up against each other. If one missed a word the other has to spell it and then spell another word. This year’s speller to go on to the Joplin Spelling Bee is Dennin Walton, with Neveah Miller as an alternate.
