Last week, SKS hosted their monthly Family Night. This evening had a fall theme and the weather was perfect. Students and their grownups were treated to frito pie made by the wonderful food services staff. Then they had a gym full of activities and a hay ride with Principal Farr! Instead of the traditional bobbing for apples, the activity was "biting for apples," hosted by Mrs. Richter and Mr. Hobbs. Apples were tied to a string and suspended from a bar. Participants had to retrieve their apple using their teeth only! The cornhole boards were in constant use and Mrs. Sherfy was ready for any challenger. Students could also get their faces painted by Mrs. Riepl, play fall bingo and assemble a scarecrow. Every once in a while, there was a very loud crash, causing everyone to jump out of their skin. Mr. Hurd hosted the Jenga game and it was loud when it crashed! Each kid that came through left with a bag of treats provided by the school.
Family Night is a monthly activity hosted by the school staff and is designed to bring the community into the school for fun and learning, though it sure doesn't seem like learning. However, teamwork and social skills are very important to everyone's success. The next Family Night is math themed and it is scheduled for November 30th at 5:00.
