The last day of school for SKS kids was a fun filled day through the favorite Polar Express Christmas story theme. Students entered the school and immediately saw the train and the tracks created by Mrs. Boyd, leading to special stations. Elementary students rotated from station to station while middle school students helped manage the stations. Mrs. Riepl read the classic story in the library, and Mrs. Everett had musical instruments ready for the students to play along to Christmas music. In the gym, Coach Hadlow had an obstacle course that the kids had to complete while carrying a marshmallow on a spoon! This was much harder than it looked. Then the students rotated to Mr. Hurds station where they had to build Christmas trees using red and green cups.
In the art room, Mrs. Wolf had coloring pages and beads set out for the kids to make a wreath and a candy cane using pipe cleaners. Mrs. TK and her helpers had a science station set up for the kids to make snow. Mrs. Givens station was a favorite; enjoying a snack of icing, graham crackers and m&m's.
To end the day, all students met in the gym and were served cookies and hot chocolate while watching the movie, The Polar Express. Before getting on the bus, a Kindergartener was overheard telling Mr. Farr, "this is the best day of my life!"
