Who likes going to the dentist? Shell Knob students do! Especially when the dentist is in a cool truck and you get to miss a little class time to go. Last week, the Access Family Care Mobile Dental Unit came to visit, providing dental services to Shell Knob students. Dental care was available for all students MO HealthNet and private insurance was billed, however students were not turned away for financial reasons. Shell Knob School had funds available through a charity grant, making care possible for all students if the parents so desired.
The purpose of the dental truck is to make a dentist visit more available to parents, so they don't have to take off work or find transportation for an office visit. Mobile dentistry allows at school dental services: reducing the amount of class time a child may miss, addressing mouth pain so the child can focus on their studies and teaches children the importance of routine dental care.
The services provided are preventative dental exams, x-rays, cleanings, sealants and restorative dental treatment. All services are performed by a licensed General Dentist and Registered Dental Hygienist. If the child's dental need is beyond the ability and time constraints for the mobile providers, the student will be referred to one of the area Access clinics for treatment.
This visit was organized by Shell Knob School Nurse, Duke Denton. Nurse Duke said, "This is a great service and I feel blessed that we can provide this resource to our students. I hope it can continue for many years."
