Caitlyn

Caitlyn Bonass, former Shell Knob student recently competed in the BETA Club's Fiber Arts (division 2) at the Missouri BETA State convention, This is the 2nd year in a row to win at the state level for Caitlyn, Cassville High School Junior. Recently, Caitlyn took  a few minutes out of her incredibly busy schedule to talk about her fiber arts project.

"I competed and won as the champion in BETA Club's Fiber Arts (division 2) at the Missouri BETA State convention. Fiber arts is an individual event so I made my project completely with only my inspirations and advice from friends and family. I chose to crochet a mushroom scene because the theme "Radiate" made me think of fireflies and fairies! I took that inspiration and created my own take on a fairy house. This competition was at the state level and I will be competing in Orlando, Florida this summer for Nationals. I started crocheting in late 2019 after seeing a cute dragon pattern on social media. I wanted to learn how to make one so I could always have my own. I never would have thought this hobby would bring me to a national event not once, but twice now."

Caitlyn taught herself to crochet! Crocheting is a process that involves using a hooked tool called a crochet hook, combining loops of yarn through various loops, creating intricate designs. Her creations are amazing! You can see Caitlyn's crochet projects on her facebook page "Kat's Fantastic Creations." Her designs are for sale. Last year, she took 2nd in the state level with an underwater creation, pictured below.

Not only is Caitlyn crocheting amazing creations, she is also a baker. Caitlyn bakes all kinds of sweets and sells them. Caitlyn was recently chosen to be a foreign exchange student for her Senior year of high school! Her country has not been firmly decided upon just yet.  Caitlyn is so excited for this new opportunity.  As you can imagine, this is a very expensive journey. All proceeds from her crochet projects and bake sales go to her traveling and studying expenses. Shell Knob School is so proud of Caitlyn and everyone wishes her all the best at Nationals and especially on her next year of study.
