On February 1, Shell Knob hosted its 1st Annual Archery Tournament. Two teams joined the Chargers with Miller bringing both their High School and Middle School teams. Aurora brought their Middle School team. Unfortunately, two teams had to drop out due to illness. However, this number of archers for our first tournament was a good start and made things a little easier to see what is required for a successful tournament. Altogether we had over 50 total archers. Many had qualifying state scores (240).
It takes a lot of preparation to host an archery meet with much equipment needed. Generally, when you think of archery, you think of bows and arrows. Along with bows and arrows, other equipment required is a bow stand, a quiver, targets, and various tools to string the bows, sight them and storage cases. The equipment adds up. It would not have been possible without getting an NRA grant to help purchase much of the equipment last fall. Noah Hadlow, the archery coach, put on a great tournament and he looks forward to hosting one every year.
