Pickleball Unit (& Tournament) by AD Jeremy Land
Every year we have a pickleball unit in PE. This year we were able to have Bob Brandt come and speak to the kids about the growing sport of pickleball. He is an ambassador of the sport in SW Missouri where he teaches the game to all ages and helps with tournaments in the area. He went over rules, techniques, and answered any questions the students had. He also let us borrow paddles for us to use for the unit and donated some pickleball balls!
At the end of the unit we always have a 2v2 pickleball tournament where the students play other teams in the class. The two teams with the best record then face off for the championship in a game to 11. It is a lot of fun and can get pretty intense. The winning team gets a slushy from the gas station in town.
It's a fun unit that the kids have enjoyed more and more each year!
